Frequently Asked Questions

The Cygnets are a co-ed, all-levels, Water Polo team based in beautiful San Diego. We practice every Tuesday night, year round in an outdoor pool.

We started as a predominantly gay & lesbian team, but we are open to everyone.

We are always looking for more players to join us in the pool. Come practice with us whether you're an expert or have never played before.  As long as you can swim, you can learn to play water polo.  You will need to become a member of U.S. water polo to play with us for insurance reasons ... applications are available online at www.usawaterpolo.com

That's fine. We're open to everyone to come and play polo with us.

That's fine too. Some of our teammates had never played water polo before playing with the Cygnets. Come to practice and you'll learn; polo is great fun and it's a great workout.

The Cygnets have players of all skill levels, from absolute beginners to ex-college players. If you're a superstar looking to get back into the sport, you can come out and challenge our more experienced players and offer instruction to the beginners.

Practices are from 7:15 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesdays.  Practices are located at Helix High School in La Mesa.

Practices usually consist of about 30 minutes of warm-up and conditioning, then drills and instruction, and finally a scrimmage.  We have a regular coach who directs practices from the pool deck.  Please arrive on time ... because water polo is a team sport, late arrivals disrupt the flow of the practice.

The Cygnets will be scrimmaging against other teams in Southern California and typically participate in the IGLA water polo tournament.
